Exploring creativity within limitations
All experiments in this project were created under a clear limitation, which gave the work its name: Drei Drei Drei. The process follows three steps: first a limitation, then the implementation, and finally the product, which often emerged without a predefined outcome.
The project is presented as a book that collects a wide range of creative experiments. Among them are a typeface I designed, bird illustrations, linocut prints, motivational stickers made from geometric shapes, custom seat covers for trams in Würzburg, a comic, and even a LEGO building guide for animals created from rectangular illustrations. Each experiment explores the potential of constraints, showing how creativity can flourish when the path is not predetermined.
Often in the creative process we focus too quickly on the presumed goal and overlook the path to get there. We only realize too late that the journey is not as straight as we expected.
To explore this, my bachelor thesis examined how the creative process unfolds without a predefined endpoint. The work includes several self-directed design experiments, documented and compiled in a reflective record.
Discovering something that has not even been searched for.
