CONTEXT
CHAIRS

In Rhetorik am Stuhl I explored rhetorical devices, the playful tricks of language, by transforming a simple chair into visual metaphors. The familiar object loses its everyday function and becomes a stage for humor, absurdity and new meaning.

The book brings together 40 pages. Each page combines a clear definition of a rhetorical figure with a black-and-white chair illustration. A chair that sits on another chair becomes personification. A spiky, uncomfortable chair labeled “the comfortable chair” becomes irony. Other chairs twist, duplicate or contradict themselves, always reflecting how language can be bent into unexpected forms.

The result is a mix of theory and illustration that is both accessible and entertaining. What usually feels abstract or academic becomes tangible and playful. Rhetorik am Stuhl invites readers to see language from a new perspective and shows how nonsense can make learning intuitive and even open doors to new narratives.

The book is gonna be used in an academic setting in the future.

NONSENS NARRATIVES

This project is part of my Master’s thesis, which explores the theme of nonsense narratives. Alongside it, the thesis includes several other creative experiments, each investigating how humor, nonsense and playful language can create new narratives. The projects include Current Excavations, a book of exploratory illustrations; One Point Five, a short film born from random words and images; Rhetorik am Stuhl, a pocket book that visualizes rhetorical devices through chairs and Tomatosoup, a comic about rivalry. Together, these works form a comprehensive exploration of visual and linguistic nonsense, combining illustration, animation, comics, design, and playful experimentation.
